“Calling All Otaku in the Busan–Ulsan–Gyeongnam Region~”
Tokyo Revengers Exhibition Opens in Busan on July 12
Enjoy a wealth of attractions including replica illustrations, a merchandise shop, a collaboration café, and four-cut photo booths
The exhibition of the hugely popular Japanese manga Tokyo Revengers will finally open in Busan on July 12.
The Tokyo Revengers Exhibition successfully concluded its showings in major Japanese cities—starting from Tokyo City View (Roppongi Hills Mori Tower), then Osaka, Fukuoka, Nagoya, and Sapporo—as well as its first overseas location, Seoul. Now, it is finally set to meet audiences in Busan.
The Tokyo Revengers Exhibition has already received rave reviews in Seoul for its diverse content, which includes not only the satisfaction of viewing original illustrations from the manga but also videos, audio, and sculptures that make visitors feel as if they’re experiencing the world of the series with all five senses.
First and foremost, the exhibition space is divided into five sections, where visitors can view around 100 iconic scenes as replica illustrations—this is undoubtedly the highlight of the exhibition. Sketches and handwritten dialogue not seen in printed or e-book editions are on display, offering a new visual experience to the audience.
Visitors can also watch the epic “Kanto Manji vs. Tenjiku vs. Black Dragon Battle” unfold across three large screens, and newly drawn manga content created specifically for the exhibition can be experienced more vividly through a voice booth. Draken’s solid abs, sculpted in bronze, and Mikey’s beloved towel are touchable elements that enhance immersion. The life-sized 3D figures of Takemichi Hanagaki and Manjiro Sano (Mikey) from the famous “Kanto Incident” scene have also become popular photo spots, making visitors feel as if they’ve stepped into the manga.
In addition, various photo zones offer visitors a wide range of enjoyable experiences. One standout is the “Cover Illustration Photo Zone,” which features the covers of all 31 volumes of the manga, changed daily according to the date. This makes it especially meaningful for returning visitors and character fans. Since missing a day means needing to come back on the same day of the following month, it has even become a spot for “proof-of-visit” photos.
The translation app DUEX App, which received positive feedback during the Seoul exhibition, will also be available at the Busan show for added convenience. Given the nature of an international exhibition, it can be difficult to understand foreign-language content. This app solves that by allowing visitors to scan a QR code next to each exhibit, displaying translated Korean images of the original works, significantly enhancing the viewing experience.
Outside the exhibition hall, a collaboration café and a self-service four-cut photo booth will be available. Special menu items inspired by scenes from the manga, such as “Mikey’s Dark Impulse Ade” and “Draken’s Shampoo Cap Ice Cream,” are visually enjoyable with their illustrated toppers. Each menu item comes with a character coaster (1 of 8 types given at random), which is not sold separately and is exclusive to the collaboration café—popular enough to foster a culture of trading among fans.
The four-cut photo service offers various options for visitors to create memories with their favorite characters. Options include “Together Frames” that allow you to appear next to characters and “Illustration Frames” that let you keep both a color illustration and your photo.
Postcards featuring famous scenes (1 of 7 types given at random) are provided upon entry. These are based on the replica illustrations in the exhibition space and serve as memorable souvenirs for visitors.
Despite the high interest in manga and anime among fans outside of Seoul, exhibitions like this have mostly been concentrated in the capital due to various constraints. In this context, the announcement of the Tokyo Revengers Exhibition in Busan is like rain in a drought for manga and anime fans in the provinces. Unlike other content events where only pop-up stores or collaboration cafés are held independently, this exhibition allows visitors to enjoy replica illustrations, a collaboration café, a merchandise shop, and four-cut photos all in one place. For those located in Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam, it presents an ideal opportunity to enjoy during the summer break or vacation season.
The Tokyo Revengers Exhibition will be held for approximately three months, from July 12 to October 19, at DUEX Busan, located in Seomyeon.
